.:{Come, let us adore Christ’s Sacred Heart, wounded for love of us}:.

Today is the solemnity of the Sacred Heart

A website maintained (though no longer updated) by a Fr. Smith has much desirable information on this topic.

Completely unliturgically, buy your sweetheart a Sacred Heart Claddagh ring.

In addition, I find the Terce reading from today delightful:

The Lord says this: They have found pardon in the wilderness, those who have survived the sword. Israel is marching to his rest. The Lord has appeared to him from afar: I have loved you with an everlasting love, so I am constant in my affection for you. I build you once more; you shall be rebuilt, virgin of Israel. Adorned once more, and with your tambourines, you will go out dancing gaily.
-Jeremiah 31:2 - 4

Though not part of today's propers, my favorite mention of the heart of Jesus comes at the end of Benediction:

May the Heart of Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament be praised, adored, and loved with grateful affection at every moment in all the tabernacles of the world even until the end of time. Amen.

.:{In Praise of Bald Men}:.

I know I promised a post about St. Rosalia -- and indeed, such a post is coming and the matière in my head only need be written out -- but learning French must come first.

However, it was in some research for French class (looking for a particular article on the Chevalier de la Charette) that I stumbled across the following: a poem called In Praise of Bald Men.

This poem, composed in the 9th century by the poet Hucbald for the bald-headed Archbishop of Mainz (although he was also evidently in the court of the Carolingian Charles the Bald), is, in the Latin, entirely comprised of words beginning with the letter "c".

.:{Corpus Christi}:.

GRADUAL : Ps. cxliv. 15, 16
Oculi omnium in te sperant, Domine : et tu das illis escam in tempore opportuno. Aperis tu manum tuam : et imples omne animal benedictione.

Sequence: Lauda Sion

GOSPEL : John vi, 56-59
Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Joannem.

OFFERTORY : Lev. xxi. 6

PREFACE of Christmas Day
